These 7 Work Stereotypes about Millennials are NOT Necessarily True
These 7 Work Stereotypes about Millennials are NOT Necessarily True Twenty to thirty year olds have been told for 10 years exactly how terrible they are at life. Theyââ¬â¢re languid, live with their folks, are completely entitled, and so forth. The rundown goes on. On the off chance that youââ¬â¢re a millennial, this can do a great deal to hamper your confidence and even your vocation objectives. In any case, a great deal of the despise out there depends on next to no reality. Recent college grads arenââ¬â¢t vastly different from whatever other age that preceded. Truth be told, if naysayers tried to converse with recent college grads, theyââ¬â¢d find that this youthful age has a similar vocation desires, life objectives, and general inspiration as more seasoned ages. In addition, theyââ¬â¢re fundamental: twenty to thirty year olds will make up over half of the workforce in the years to come.Given the entirety of that, we should begin exposing a couple of those millennial myths.Myth #1: Millennials are all ââ¬Å"me, me, me,â⬠all the time.Reality: Every age is all ââ¬Å"me, me, me.â⬠Itââ¬â¢s simply human instinct. Each more seasoned age thinks the enhanced one is narrow minded and self-fixated. On the off chance that youââ¬â¢re feeling singled out, youââ¬â¢re not the only one. The Baby Boomers were the first ââ¬Å"meâ⬠age, and thereââ¬â¢ll be increasingly after you. Perhaps youââ¬â¢ll even be the one doing the bothering when youââ¬â¢re higher up in the profession ranks.Myth #2: Millennials need a gathering and strip only for demonstrating up.Reality: Millennials donââ¬â¢t really long for consistent unmerited approval. Truth be told, as children they may have been prepared for this by their helicopter guardians, yet theyââ¬â¢re adults now and need to acquire their honors like every other person. Trust: Itââ¬â¢s actually the Baby Boomers who figure all individuals ought to be remunerated when the group is effective. Twenty to thirty year olds are truly vicious and serio us about winning reasonable and square.Myth #3: Millennials are tech-fixated and canââ¬â¢t carry on with an actual existence offline.Reality: Yes, recent college grads are tied to their gadgets as if their telephones are imperative appendages. Be that as it may, they are additionally competent, and considerably enthusiastic, for vis-à -vis connection when that bodes well (for example in the work environment). Also, theyââ¬â¢re in reality bound to draw a line among individual and expert via web-based networking media than more seasoned generations.Myth #4: Millennials are wafflers.Reality: Everyone requests exhortation and gets companions, partners, and family to say something regarding significant choices. Twenty to thirty year olds maybe look to a bigger assortment of sources to settle on more educated choices than their progressively autonomous disapproved of seniors. This is really a sagacious move, particularly in todayââ¬â¢s progressively interconnected and complex bus iness world.Myth #5: Millennials arenââ¬â¢t steadfast and will escape at whatever point they lose interest.Reality: While ââ¬Å"passionâ⬠is unquestionably essential to this age, twenty to thirty year olds really remain with their managers longer than their Gen X partners. The market is more alarming and less fatty out there, so they realize when to wait and be all the more ascertaining with their vocation moves. Maybe they will have held a bigger number of occupations by a specific age than different ages, however that has more to do with the ferocious economy and less to do with lethargy or wanderlust.Myth #6: Millennials donââ¬â¢t work hard.Reality: The range of abilities of this century is as of now especially not quite the same as the range of abilities of the bygone one. Working environments, and working environment culture, look not at all like they used to. All things considered, making correlations between them is unprofitable. Given the requests of todayââ¬â ¢s cutting edge interconnected workforce, twenty to thirty year olds are really buckling down and improving at an exponential rate. Theyââ¬â¢re additionally somewhat more serious than Baby Boomers, which goes connected at the hip with difficult work, hustle, and long hours.Myth #7: Millennials need work to keep an eye on: Millennials are entirely equipped for dealing with themselves. Enterprises donââ¬â¢t need to speak condescendingly to them or treat them like kids. Likewise, with the ever-changing structure of the workforce, twenty to thirty year olds have a decision to work for organizations or for themselves in todayââ¬â¢s economy. Partnerships would do well to acknowledge they need twenty to thirty year olds more than recent college grads need them!

Whats my age again
Whatâs my age again The start of the semester was comically reminiscent of the first day of third grade, when after a few minutes of reading from a picture book on the floor I realized I was in the wrong classroom, and the right classroom had a preliminary spelling test. The first biochemistry recitation had a suspiciously young, suspiciously energetic recitation instructor, suspiciously asking the class to introduce itself and not talking about protein structure. Two course 18 freshmen later my heart sank. I couldnât possibly hope that biochemistry was that trendy now. The class turned to me. âHi, Iâm Lydia. Iâm a sophomore. Iâm in courses 6-7 and 18. Iâm not in 7.05 recitation, am I?â I found out later that we didnât have recitation that week, which I didnât realize because I accidentally pre-registered for 7.06 instead of 7.05. Oops. I retreated with my freshly free hour and a bagel, orange juice, and large coffee from Café Four to my favorite empty classroom on campus, a small room in Building Four within hearing distance of the piano practice rooms, with big desks and a huge window looking out over Killian Court, to read The Machine Stops by E.M. Forster, an apocalyptic sci-fi that seemed way too awesome to be homework but, amazingly, was. By the end of the story I had inched halfway around the table to escape the sun, and considered that I should probably spend more time outside and less time creeping away from natural light. Random Hall turned 11 last Wednesday, on Leap Day. Iâm turning 20 in less than two weeks, which terrifies me because my last eight purchases have been Legos, mechanical pencils, and glitter fairy stickers to put on my problem sets. Iâm trying to figure out if I can be a grownup and still like comic books. Life feels a little like this right now (mouse over): Iâm trying to take on an easier but busy schedule this term, to raise my GPA and self-confidence, start a good pattern of sleeping and exercising and eating vegetables, and set the stage for a positive next two years at MIT. 18.06: Linear Algebra Since I decided to be a math major I need to take this. Why not now? I like it so far. It feels like itll be very useful, whatever I end up doing with my life. 18.03: Differential Equations I no-recorded differential equations spring semester freshman year. Iâm impressed by how much my ability to work through both familiar and novel problems has improved over the past year at MIT. This class used to be hard; this time around it isnât (fingers crossed). I like my recitation instructor. He started the first recitation with a pep talk about responsibility and motivation. We should own our decision to take differential equations, he said, and own the material so we can use it to reach our greater goals. I wish someone had given me this pep talk a year ago, but Iâm just as happy to hear it now. 6.006: Introduction to Algorithms How to write good code, and then make it even better. About a tenth of Random Hall is currently taking or TA-ing 6.006. I love it. I learned more about programming from the first problem set than I ever expected to learn in two weeks. This class is a prerequisite for almost everything else I want to take. Hopefully itâs the first step to becoming a better programmer, so I can someday write efficient algorithms for genome analysis and help advance our understanding of who we are today and how we got here. 21L.448J, also known as 21W.739J: Darwin and Design We read, think, talk, and write about evolution, religion, our relationship with machines, and the future of human (and/or robot) civilization. I love it. I canât believe Iâm getting credit for this. 7.05: General Biochemistry I like the material so far. My parents both do research in biochemistry and molecular biology; itâs exciting to understand more about what they do every day. Iâm happy that the problem sets are not graded, and that the grade breakpoints are set before the first exam. However, this is without a doubt my hardest class this term. The exams are open note. Iâm terrified. I also picked up two new jobs: in addition to my UROP and blogging I am now also a professional note taker and button pusher. I am a desk worker, which means I do problem sets on the first floor of my dorm, unlock the door for friends, and panic when facilities workers stop by (âHi, Iâm here about the leak.â âThe water leak?â âThe heat leak.â âThe hot water leak?â âThe heat leak.â) or the mail comes in. I am also a note taker in biochemistry, which is exactly what it sounds like. And here we are. Iâm starting the term off with five awesome classes, four hobby-jobs of varying intensity, and my first great expedition into existence as a two-decade-old. (And no spelling tests.)

Happiness Helpful Or Harmful - 1230 Words
Happiness: Helpful or harmful? In todayââ¬â¢s society, we are relentlessly bombarded with annoying phrases like ââ¬Å"things arenââ¬â¢t so badâ⬠or ââ¬Å"look on the bright side of lifeâ⬠. (Inside Out Review, 2015). Our brains are wired to think that the optimal level of happiness is achieved when we refuse to think negatively. However, adopting this type of attitude can result in just the opposite of happiness. Having a sense of optimism, especially on a good day almost feels like bliss. However, on a bad day, pushing away any insignificant hint of sadness you may be feeling can put you at an ultimate low. I compare this to the story told by James Baldwin entitled, ââ¬Å"Sonnyââ¬â¢s Bluesâ⬠. The author uses a close family member to convey the damagingâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Their relentless positivity reaches a point where it is irritating. This type of thinking results in a distorted sense of reality, as it causes us to over exaggerating our abilities This condition can be referred to as the optimism bias and 80% of humans have it. ââ¬Å"It s our tendency to overestimate our likelihood of experiencing good events in our lives and underestimate our likelihood of experiencing bad events. So we underestimate our likelihood of suffering from cancer, being in a car accident. We overestimate our longevity, our career prospects. In short, we re more optimistic than realistic, but we are oblivious to the fact.â⬠( Tali Sharot, 2012) The choice of choosing optimism over realism it can sometimes lead to an unfeasible expectation that can never possibly be met. When we set these expectations for ourselves or others, we feel disappointed when these expectations are unsatisfied. We become more likely to pursue unrealistic expectations which exceed our skill level. We then have the issue of our high ideals, goals, and expectations being unequivocal to our current talent or skill level. The key is not to push away thoughts of negativity, but to use them to our advantage. In order to use your optimism to your advantage you have to find a way to not be on either side of the scale. A equal balance of optimism and realism will be your best aid to achieving your goals. In her speech, Tari Shallot uses a cartoon of several penguins and a large
